Alex Cooper, a former football player and now a porn star, has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a girl while in a relationship with his former football coach, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The 27-year-old was arrested in June and accused of having “inappropriate sexual relationships with women.”
The Manchester Evening Press says the charges relate to Cooper’s relationship with a 14-year old girl and the “pornography” she used to be a pornstar.
Cooper’s lawyer has denied the charges and his father has said the arrest was a “politically motivated smear campaign.”
In a statement released on Friday, Cooper’s father, who is the director of the Football Association of Great Britain, said he was “extremely disappointed” that “the Manchester Evening Times is peddling lies” about his son.
He said the newspaper has been “disingenuous” and “willing to engage in a witch hunt.”
“Alex Cooper has spent his whole career playing the game of football, not the porn industry,” Cooper’s dad said.
“He has been a very good father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.
He has done nothing wrong and nothing that would justify his arrest.””
The football community has been left devastated and outraged by these sensational allegations and we must now act to ensure the public and the wider football community can continue to enjoy the game they love.”
The Manchester Evening Sun reported that Cooper’s attorney, Paul Brown, said in a statement on Friday that the charges against Cooper were “completely false and defamatory.”
“This is a smear campaign by the Manchester City Football Club to attack my client,” Brown said.
Cooper was charged after a 16-year age-gap investigation that began after he allegedly used a girl under the age of 16 to meet another girl, who was allegedly underage, in a hotel room in 2016.”

Coop was released on bail in February after agreeing to undergo psychological tests to establish if he was a sex offender.
The newspaper also reported that an arrest warrant was issued for Cooper’s brother, who also played football for Manchester City.
